The legendary rhythm section of European jazz legend Peter Brötzmann’s Full Blast is teaming up in a brand-new outfit with Brooklyn’s visceral guitar player Ava Mendoza. They are touring for the first time together – in Southamerica!
MENDOZA-PLIAKAS-WERTMUELLER will further develop Full Blast’s attitude: Tumultuous, fiery free music with a great guitar player “instead” of Brötzmann’s reeds, formally conscious, architectural, ecstatic!
AVA MENDOZA (*1983) is a Brooklyn-based guitarist, singer, songwriter and composer. As a guitarist, Mendoza has received recognition for her technique and sensitivity. In each context, she strives to bring expressiveness, energy and a broad spectrum of sound to the music. Mendoza has toured throughout the USA and Europe and recorded/performed with musicians including Carla Bozulich, Malcolm Mooney, Steve Shelley, Mike Watt, Adele Bertei, Mick Barr, William Hooker, Nels Cline, Matana Roberts, John Zorn, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Fred Frith, William Parker, Hamid Drake, Object Collection (Travis Just), ROVA, Negativland, the Violent Femmes, and members of Caroliner. She was featured as one of Guitar World’s “10 Female Guitarists You Should Know”.
MICHAEL WERTMUELLER (*1966) and MARINO PLIAKAS (*1964) toured since 2004 and played hundreds of concerts world-wide as the rythm section of FULL BLAST together with Peter Brötzmann; they also worked together on various projects with Caspar Broetzmann, Stephan Wittwer, John Cale, Holger Csukay, Marian Gold, Mouse on Mars, Jaki Liebezeit, KK.Null, Olaf Rupp, IVES #1, and many others; cooperation with Pliakas’ avant trio STEAMBOAT SWITZERLAND, various operas and new music contexts with Klangforum Vienna, MusikFabrik Cologne, Ensemble Courage Dresden, Hamburger Staatsoper, Theater Basel, Ruhrtriennale, Donaueschingen, Schauspielhaus Hamburg etc.etc.). Both of them toured world-wide with their various bands (MW: William Parker Trio, Alboth!, 16-17, W2; MP: steamboat switzerland, sludge 2000 etc.).
